When I saw in the news that 3rd year old Syrian Alan Kurdi had washed up on a Turkish shore after trying with his family to escape oppression in his country I was devastated. The picture of the sweet little boy lying on the beach broke my heart. This song is for him, for the loss of his life and innocence, but I realize he's just one of many children whose lives are turned upside down by greedy, power hungry adults. But we wanted to also present the side that he hasn't lost his life in vain, that there is hope in all the people who are waking up to injustices in the world and taking action, and that Alan's pure spirit lives on in the song of the waves.
