about

This song is about that feeling of nostalgia and longing that we get when we think about that tune that we used to hear our mom, dad, etc. humming when we were on their knee as a child - we can't remember the words or the exact melody, but it resonates in our heart and gut, with bits of love, sadness, loss, longing, etc. (the Brazilians call it saudade). I also like to describe it as "the song a song would sing if a song could sing a song"!

lyrics

Song Song

I can't think of a time
before the river
when all that was
was stone upon stone

Upriver from the home
we've always forgotten
when you look up
and the way there
is not known

always already overhead and underfoot
the fall of words will fail to tell
the time before we threw stones at the mirror

there's a song sung by ghosts that we love
that we take our names from
how long was the song sung before the sun?

on the banks, of the river
they came, without walls to enclose
made stones, to propose
time became a rose…
